She grew up in Khakassia, in the small village of Marchelgash (Shira Region). Her father was a Russian German; his parents were deported from the German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic during World War II. Her mother is Mari, and her parents moved to Siberia from the Republic of Mari El in the early 1960s.

Marina’s native language is Russian, but from childhood she heard German, spoken by her paternal grandparents, and Mari, spoken by her maternal grandmother. At school, she studied the Khakas language and Khakas literature.

After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the Faculty of Journalism at Tomsk State University. She earned her journalism degree in 2012 and worked as a freelancer, collaborating with both regional and national media outlets, and writing content for commercial blogs.

She worked in the press service of Tomsk State University and served as editor-in-chief of ‘Project Alma Mater’, a newspaper the university published for the city.

In 2018, after her father’s death, she returned to Khakassia and continued freelancing. Since 2019, she has been teaching at the Higher School of Journalism at TSU, specializing in ‘News, Editing, and Writing.’ She also edits and produces media projects. Since 2021, she has been living in Tomsk.

‘Family Pain’ is Marina’s first personal project.
